Literature Text

When the fires are lit,
Your body is hit
By the power of magic in night.

While the candle-wax melts,
Remembering felt,
You feel the beautiful, carnal sin.

And the chanting begins,
Carried by the winds,
Filling you with physicality.

Your voice escapes your throat,
In unholy croaks,
To join the black, blasphemous chorus.

You join in the magic
Christians think tragic,
Rising, elite, above the masses.
This one, I wrote today. It's the third consecutive poem I've written that's inspired by Satanism. (Today, for the record, until tomorrow, is March 8, 2010.)

I really like this one. There's denotation/connotation, juxtaposition, and other literary devices that I don't care to figure out in my other poems. I mean, c'mon, how many times do you see "beautiful" and "carnal" juxtaposed like that?

Okay, I'll stop now, because I'm sure that the majority of people who might read my comments have no idea why I'm talking about literary devices, if they know what those are in the first place.

At any rate, this is not an angry poem. This is an empowering poem. I like it a lot. But give it a few days and I won't like it so much anymore. :\
